Creating a Shared Vision for Indeed's Job Posting Experience

I led a cross-functional initiative to unify Indeed's job posting experience, driving tens of thousands of additional job posts daily and shaping a one-year north star vision and roadmap.

Role: Director of User Experience

Background

Indeed's job posting experience, a core revenue driver and primary source of jobs on the platform, had become disjointed over time, negatively impacting revenue growth and user satisfaction. Our goal was to define an end-to-end vision for a unified funnel that would make it faster and easier to bring high-quality jobs onto the platform while driving our monetization strategy.

Approach

I partnered with a UX leadership peer to develop our strategy. My team designed and ran a series of workshops that brought teams together to map current-state experiences, identify pain points and opportunities, and collaboratively build toward a unified future state. I established a working group comprising a lead designer, content writer, and user researcher to define the vision, build a prototype, and test with users.

After user research validated the direction, we built a communication plan to generate buy-in across teams and stakeholders. The vision served as a north star, while leaving space for contributing teams to define detailed solutions through experimentation.

Outcome

A shared vision meant teams could experiment quickly while maintaining a cohesive end-to-end experience. Through the visioning work, my team prioritized and delivered key initiatives that fundamentally improved the employer experience, driving 5% completion rate increases and tens of thousands of additional job posts daily.

Key initiatives:

  • AI-assisted job descriptions to help employers create high-quality posts while maintaining control over their content, reducing burden while improving job quality

  • A streamlined posting flow that removed unnecessary questions and features user research identified as barriers, significantly improving completion rates

  • Mobile experience improvements to serve entirely new user segments we hadn't been able to support effectively, expanding our addressable market

  • Authentication optimizations that moved two-factor authentication later in the flow, balancing security with usability to reduce early dropoff

Instead of shipping features for incremental measurement wins, our teams began evaluating test results within the context of the end-to-end funnel experience.
